BlackBerry Launches Scholars Program for Women

BlackBerry Launches Scholars Program for WomenHow serious are women towards making a career in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM)? How about a program that can inspire more women to enter and develop careers in STEM? Well, BlackBerry understands the worth of a woman, it has comes up with Global Women’s Initiative to inspire women to make career in STEM.

 In a recent event organized by BlackBerry Live in Orlando, Florida, BlackBerry Global Creative Director, Alicia Keys, launched the new BlackBerry Scholars Program to inspire women to enter and develop the careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math. It’s the first step in the company’s Global Women’s initiative designed to bring more and more women in these fields.

 The BlackBerry Scholars Program is targeted towards those outstanding women who are seeking degrees at accredited colleges and Universities in the area of STEM and have particular interest in mobile computing. The BlackBerry Scholars Program will provide full, four-year tuition scholarships to the selected women. Well, it’s only the first step in BlackBerry’s long-term commitment to engage young women as it has more plans and strategies moving under the panel to make the program popular among young women.

According to BlackBerry around 55% of BlackBerry customers are women and therefore it aims at supporting this generation women to endeavor their ambition in highly-competitive industry. Addressing the gathering at the launch of Scholarship program, Alicia Keys expressed that women should not be underrepresented in the fields of science and technology instead we should drive a change and make them comfortable in demanding areas like STEM.

With the help of Global Women’s Initiative, BlackBerry will be demonstrating leadership in women’s education. It will connect to young women in high school and college, and prove them that careers in STEM are within their reach. BlackBerry will also provide the mentoring support to advance women in their field if they land job in any of these fields. The BlackBerry Scholars Program will also offer mentorship and professional opportunities to each scholar. However, the scholars will be selected based on their academic merit and passion for entering the mobile computing industry.

BlackBerry will keep a panel of inspiring and talented women who will choose the applicants from the pool of nominations. The deadline given to submit the applications is before 5PM EDT on June 26, 2013.
