Keep Your Facebook Life Private and Secure

keep-your-facebook-life-private-and-secureYou have a Facebook account and that automatically means that your personal life is public…right? Wrong!

Who views what on Facebook is completely in your hands. All that’s needed is enable privacy settings and here is how to go about it.

 No Chat bite!

Are you refraining yourself to get online because a 24×7 online friend will ping you and will start bothering you? Do you know how you can manage your Facebook chat?

Yes, you can stay offline only for your chatty friends and can still enjoy being online for as long as you want. To enable this amazing setting for the person you are not comfortable chatting; open the chat window. Click on the setting icon on the top right, click on the option ‘Turn off Chat for (Name of the person will also appear)’.

As soon as you enable ‘Turn off Chat’ this particular person will never find out when you came online.

Review, Allow or Reject Tagged Posts

This is an interesting feature that everyone needs from getting rid of unnecessary tagging and embarrassing posts that appear on the timeline.

Facebook privacy feature allows you to go through the posts that you are tagged in by your friends. This will help you to be in command of what is being shared on your timeline. This feature certainly helps you in putting a stop to embarrassing posts even before they appear on your timeline.

To enable this feature go to ‘Account Settings’ and click on ‘Timeline and Tagging’.  In the ‘Timeline and Tagging’ section click on ‘Who can add things to my timeline?’ Now, click on the option ‘Review posts friends tag you in before they appear on your timeline’.

Once you have enabled this option, anyone who tags you on Facebook will require your permission to share that particular post on your timeline.

Who can view your post?

What you publish on Facebook is no more public! Keeping in mind your privacy, Facebook now enables you to customize your audience simply.

Just add your contacts to various groups for sharing your posts. For example, you can add your family members to ‘Family’ group, friends in ‘Friends’ group. Keeping your contacts in groups will help you share particular posts only with the members of that particular group.

The next time you are posting any picture, status or message on Facebook, you can simply choose your viewers from the posting option available under ‘Update status’.

Once you have chosen the group that you wish to share your post, no other Facebook user will be able to view your post. It’s time you can enjoy your privacy!

Prevent Friends from Viewing Your Profile Details

At times adding people to your profile gets important, but you are not always comfortable sharing every event of your life with them! There is a way out of such situations without even letting the person know about it.

Add the contacts to a group called ‘Limited Profile’ or ‘Restricted Profile’. Adding the names of your contacts to such groups will restrict them from going through all your posts and details.

You can customize your future posts to be viewed by all your friends except for the ‘Limited Profile’ list. This will certainly help you to enjoy your social media life, without any worries and with the people you want to share your moments.

Manage Your Viewers for Future Posts

To customize the audience of your future post go to your ‘Privacy’ settings available under ‘Account Settings’. In ‘Privacy’ settings select ‘Who can see my future posts?’ The drop down list will show you options like – Public, Friends, Only me and Custom. If you choose the option-

  • Public, then anyone having a Facebook account will be able to view your posts.
  • People added in your ‘Friends List’ will be able to view your posts.
  • Choosing the option ‘Only Me’ will not share any content with anyone.

However, custom is the same option that we have discussed earlier for customizing your viewers.

By using these simple and easy tips you will have full control of your Facebook posts, pictures and shares that appear on your timeline. This will get you the worry free freedom to share your thoughts, events and pictures and at the same time will also maintain your privacy from others.
