How to Make Sharing Files between Home PCs Easy?

If you are having multiple computers at your home then, networking and sharing can be easy and fun too. Besides ‘sharing is caring’, sharing is saving costs, saving significant data from getting lost as well. Networking computers within a group in your house, office, school and makes your life simpler. You can share one scanner or printer among your kids and husband in your home for printing images from your laptop, kids’ computers and husband’s notebook. Likewise, it becomes easy to share projects, references, pictures and learning materials with your pupils in your school. Data travels faster and costs lesser by saving expenses on Internet, as well.

If those PCs which you want to connect through home network run on Windows 7 operating system then, you need to create a HomeGroup network which will instantly provide you the file sharing capabilities on your PCs.

To accomplish file sharing on your computers, you have to follow these simple steps:

  • Go to ‘Control Panel’ and click on ‘Choose homegroup and sharing options’ right under ‘Network and Internet’.
  • You will now be asked to designate your network connection as your ‘Home Network’ which will prevent sharing across unsecure networks.
  • After you have designated your Home Network, you will notice a window with title ‘Share with other home computers running Windows 7’. Here you need to click on ‘Create a homegroup’.
  • You will now be asked what exactly you want to share, though Pictures, Music, Videos and printers are included by default you can also add ‘Documents’ too. Then click on ‘Next’.
  • Now windows will generate a password for you, which you need to remember whenever you add other computers to your homegroup. Click on ‘Finish’.
  • View summary of your homegroup settings and if you need to change the settings at any time you can simply access this page from Control Panel.
  • Thereafter go to the other computers on your Home Network, open homegroup option on the Control Panel and view your newly created homegroup.
  • Click on ‘Join now’, enter password and follow the steps displayed in set-up wizard. Now you can easily share files between computers in your homegroup.

In order to view any shared file, just click on Windows Explorer icon in the bottom and view computers that are in your ‘HomeGroup’ in the left side. There, click on one of them and view shared libraries on the right.
