You might have three or more e-mail accounts- say Gmail for my official mails, Hotmail for friends and Yahoo! just because it was the first one you created a long ago and so you have a close affinity to it. This would require you to keep hopping between the three accounts to make sure that you don’t miss out on any mail. It is a very time consuming process that can be shortened by accessing multiple e-mail accounts with one e-mail client, Gmail. You can still have all your contacts and stored conversations intact because it is like one big reference base you wouldn’t like to lose. So here is an easy way to keep all your e-mail accounts under one universal account.
It is a fairly simple procedure that once completed, will un-complicate your life to a great extent and save time. So read on for an easy guide:
Enable Multiple Inboxes
First, open your Gmail account and go to Settings. Now, click on the Labs tab to enable the “Multiple Inboxes” feature. This would display an additional box next to your inbox pane containing search results for “is:starred” and “is:drafts”, if you have starred or draft e-mails. If you don’t want a pane for drafts or starred e-mails, you have the flexibility to remove them by going to the multiple inbox settings.
Adding external e-mail accounts
From Settings, go to Accounts tab. Look for “Get mail from other accounts: Add a mail account you own” option. Enter the e-mail address, password and any other relevant information, and then add the account.
Once multiple e-mail accounts are added, go to the Multiple inboxes tab under Settings. The default set-up will show that pane 0 filled with “is:starred” and Pane 1 with “is:drafts”. Simply enter the new e-mail address or any other search criteria you might want displayed beside your Gmail inbox. Also check the additional settings, which let you adjust the number of messages that will be displayed in the extra inbox panes as well as their position. For adding more e-mail accounts, simply repeat previous steps from Accounts tab.
You are now ready to access all your e-mail accounts under one common place- Gmail and enjoy hassle free webmail experience.
