Do you feel angry when your mail is flooded with unwanted messages? Junk and clutter impede workflow as well as peace and serenity of mind. You can set yourself free from unwanted mails, known as spam or junk, by following these simple guidelines:
Prevention against spam
Do not give out your e-mail address to one and all. Rather, reserve your personal e-mail address for important communication with family, friends and professional contacts.
For other purposes like e-commerce, or filling forms and managing subscriptions, it is better to sign up for a separate e-mail service. This should not be a problem, as most e-mail services on the web, like yahoo and Gmail, are free. Specially, stay away from providing your personal e-mail address to companies. They usually sell e-mail address to other companies, which send out spam e-mails.
You should also opt for a spam-prevention service from your Internet Service Provider. This will filter out most known spammers. Use the filtering feature to direct spam messages to a separate folder, which you may name as, âSuspected spamâ or âJunk Folderâ. Delete the contents of this folder from time to time. Â It is not too difficult to identify spam, as most of it is not directly addressed to the recipient.
Manage Your Mail Inbox
Depending on the e-mail program which you use, define rules for all incoming mail. Refer to the Help feature of your e-mail to do this. You can also choose to continue receiving selective messages, which are not directly addressed to you, by specifying the senderâs name, and defining a rule. The rule would read like, âIf the Sender field includes âxyzâ, then send this message to the âxyz folderââ.
Freedom from Spam
If you are upset with spam flooding your mail folder, here are a few easy steps to get rid of it right away. Microsoft Outlook is mentioned as an example.
Use the left menu bar to scroll to the âJunk Mailâ folder and right click on it. Select âEmpty Junk Email Folderâ. Click âOkâ to confirm your choice. The junk e-mails will now be deleted.
But before deleting the junk mails, scan through the junk folder carefully. This is to make sure that no important e-mails have been accidentally placed among the junk messages.
