Do you know what makes the name ’HoTMaiL’ special? Well, it is the fact that its original name and capitalization refers to HTML, the encoding language used by the World Wide Web. It was one of the first free webmail services that after being acquired by Microsoft in 1997, was renamed as “MSN Hotmail” and this name was further modified to the current version “Windows Live Hotmail”.
Now that you are enlightened about the history of the name Hotmail, let us discuss some of its benefits. Once you create a Hotmail account, the same username and password can be used to access other Microsoft Windows Live services such as Spaces, OneCare, Xbox LIVE, Calendar, Gallery and many more. Also, the same account can be used for Instant Messaging in MSN Messenger, for e-mail, and for other purposes featuring unlimited storage without costing you a penny, so why think more?
Create a Hotmail e-mail account following the simple guidelines mentioned below and begin using it right away.
- Go to the Homepage
- Hotmail signup form
- User name considerations
- Get Started
This is where you start. Simply type ‘www.hotmail.com’ in the address bar and hit ‘Enter’. This will take you to the homepage of the website. Now you need to look for “Sign up” button to load the form and create your account.
Clicking on Sign up would bring you to a page that asks if you wish to use Windows Live Hotmail or Windows Live Services that includes Hotmail. Choose what you want to move on to the blank form display.
The form would have some fields to be filled in with your information but don’t get bogged down. This is basic information that would take only couple of minutes. Some of the information that Hotmail requires may not be related directly to your e-mail account. However, this is used in case you forget your user name or password. You can also supply an alternate e-mail address for that purpose.
Note: Form fields having an asterisk or a star symbol (*) in front must not be missed.
Pay attention to the user name you create as it should be unique, yet short and easy to remember. Once you have decided the user name and password, click the “Check Availability” button. Various username combinations can be tried, until you find one that has not yet been taken by someone else. Once you populate all the fields, go through the Agreement and Privacy Statement and click the “I Accept” button.
Congratulations! Your new Hotmail e-mail address is now ready to use. Isn’t that easy! The next screen shows you a summary of your account, including a “Go to my inbox” link. Your inbox will only have a welcome message at this point.
You can now close that window and open a new window, after creating your e-mail address successfully. Type’ www.hotmail.com’ in that window and enter the e-mail address you just created and its password. After logging in, you can use your account.
