How to Setup E-mail Account in Microsoft® Outlook 2007

Your professional e-mail site may be enrolled under Outlook 2007 for essentially official communications within the corporate framework. Outlook 2007 provides at your service e-mails from a number of sources, including Microsoft Exchange servers, Internet e-mail and HTTP e-mail providers. Configuring a few especial types of e-mails requires network administration access. The following guidelines can surely assist you in creating the most prominently approved type of e-mail configuration in Outlook 2007.

Get started with e-mail account in Outlook 2007

Open Outlook 2007. Do make sure that you have an active account fully configured and ready to accept e-mail. Then access the E-mail Account Settings dialog box. Select the ‘File’ option followed by the ‘Data File Management’. Then choose the ‘E-mail’ tab.

Create a new e-mail account

You need to select ‘New’ and then ‘Next’. All Internet Service Providers (ISPs) do not support Outlook 2007’s ability to configure e-mail settings automatically, Hence, select the ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’. Move on by clicking ‘Next’. Keep the default ‘Internet e-mail’ selected and continue to the ‘Next’ page

Enter e-mail settings

Type the name that you want to show up in a recipient’s e-mail client in the ‘Your Name’ field. Enter the e-mail address provided by your ISP into the field ‘E-mail Address’. Retain the default setting of ‘POP3’ in the ‘Account Type’ dropdown list, and then type the incoming and outgoing server information provided by your ISP into the appropriate fields. Enter your login information in the ‘User Name’ and ‘Password’ columns respectively. It is suggested to put a check on the box next to ‘Remember password’. By doing so, you need not be entering your password every time you send or receive your e-mails.

Configure server settings

For the sake of personalizing your account, select ‘More Settings’ and make any desired changes on the ‘General’ tab. The defaults are typically adequate. Select the ‘Outgoing Server’ tab, and unless your ISP has provided different instructions, check ‘My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication’. These will provide you with the best possible authentic information. In most cases, select ‘Use same settings as my incoming mail server’. However, if your ISP has provided different outgoing server settings, enter them here. Select the ‘Connection’ tab and make any required changes. It is suggested to keep the defaults since they are usually appropriate. Finally, select the ‘Advanced’ tab, and make any changes in the ‘Server Port Numbers’ section as indicated by your ISP. Put a check mark for delivery for the maintenance of your personal records. ‘Leave a copy of message on server’ if you do not want e-mails to be deleted off the e-mail server, once it gets downloaded to your e-mail recipient. Once you are done with the entire process, click on ‘OK.’

Assess your configuration

Select “Test Account Settings” to ensure that e-mails can be sent and received through the newly configured e-mail account. In case of any error in the smooth working procedure, your ISP will provide you with required instructions so that you may reconfirm your settings. When finished, click ‘Next’ then finally ‘Finish’. Clicking on the ‘Close’ would mean your exit from the ‘Account Settings’ dialog box.

Did you ever think that the process could be so easy? Now that these guidelines are rendered at your service, what’s holding you back from getting started with the entire procedure? The guidelines stated above claim to provide you a much simplified method of creating a new e-mail account in Outlook 2007.
