You might need to change your e-mail account password due to any reason like password expiration; you have forgotten it, for safety, etc. Whatever the reason is, your password must always be memorable for you but difficult for others to guess. A good password should be a minimum of 6 characters long. A strong password contains a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers and special characters like ‘+’, ‘$’. And ‘*’.
There are three types of e-mail passwords:
- Passwords in e-mail clients like Microsoft Outlook
- Passwords in e-mail servers like Microsoft Exchange
- Passwords in web-based e-mail systems like Hotmail
Changing passwords in web based email systems is the easiest, because it is only stored in one place — on the server. Changing e-mail passwords in client/server systems requires changing the password on the client and on the server. Let us make this process simpler for you.
Changing Microsoft Outlook password: Click on the Tools drop down menu and choose Account Settings from there. Select you e-mail account then click Change. Type a new password in the Password: field and then click Test Account Settings. Click Close, and then Next and finally Finish to end the process.
Changing Microsoft Exchange password: Press the CTRL+ALT + DELETE keys at the same time.
In the window that pops up, click the Change Password button and enter your User name. Select the domain you want to change your password for. Enter your old password and then your new password and finally, click the OK button.
Changing Hotmail password: Open your Windows Live Hotmail Account from Hotmail.
Enter your current password and click Sign in. In your Account Summary, just below the Password reset option, click on Change next to the starred password.
A screen will appear where you will be asked to provide your old password. You will then be required to type in a new password and then type it again for confirmation. Click the Save button to save your new password.
