I was planning for a tour to Italy recently, so I was doing Google for hotels, tourist attractions, car rentals or cities in Italy. Then, I modified my search phrase with “flights from New York to Venice” to find the lowest bargains from online travel agents. Then I saw the wonder: a “Schedule of non-stop flights” on top of ten search results with a ‘+’ sign and a blue small airplane flashing beside it. Why was I seeing it – any guess? The Google Flight Search App expands beyond US cities.
Google’s Flight Search app – a globetrotter’s pet
Google launched its Flight Search app back in September 2012 with limited flight search facilities within US. My searches like “cheap flights from JFK to SFO” had shown flight search results on top of regular search result pages from December. But, this time Google’s Flight Search app takes off to cover destinations around the globe such as Venice, Amsterdam etc. That’s why I was able to find out the flight search results to my US to Italy flight query. With this Google Flight Search app, I can get to search for cities from any country and continent outside the U.S., provided we are searching from a city from the U.S. the facility starts from March 15, 2012 onwards.
How to use Google Flight Search app?
With this Flight Search app, Google gets an edge over online travel agents like Expedia, Kayak etc., portals that heavily depend on Google search result pages for traffic and businesses to their sites. Every time Google flight search results will appear on top of webpages of these travel websites will likely to catch our attention to Google’s results than scroll through sites from its results. One thing what I loved about Google Flight Search app was that I can check out cheaper destinations with a single click on any surrounding place on the map – thus I can compare flight rates among select destinations. I can quickly change dates from the chart displayed below the dates to see and compare flight rates available to check out the lowest bargains – isn’t easy?
