Career Tips for Women—the Rise of Women Entrepreneurs

What do Foodspotting, TaskRabbit and Gilt have in common? They are all co-founded by women. Welcome to the Rise of Women Entrepreneurs, on this International Women’s Day.

Women are climbing the corporate ladder and proving that they have what it takes to succeed in a corporate world. On this International Women’s Day, we encourage you to be a part of this change. Break the glass ceiling and prove that you deserve that top job and you have what it takes to succeed. Check out some practical career tips for women that can make a substantial difference in your work life.

Tips to climb the corporate ladder

Play by the rules:

Let us face it; you are competing in a man’s world. Men know how to shake hands with their opponents and move on. You need to master the very same thing. Women are good in networking, so use that skill. Make friendship with peers and mentors. Don’t let your job be a place where you do a 9 to 5 shift. Make it a prominent aspect of your life and see how you grow with the organization.

Use social media effectively:

Your office network is definitely there on Facebook and LinkedIn. And you just can’t afford not to be a part of this network. Be active on your office circles and show interest in the different activities that happen in the organization.

Work on your communication skill:

It is not wrong to have differing opinions and you shouldn’t also be afraid of giving constructive feedback. Get your point across without being overbearing or bossy. You also need to put your case convincingly in meetings and always be prepared for questions and comments. You need to be prepared and ready to convince whenever required.

Dress the part:

What you wear and how you carry yourselves is a very important part of a corporate environment. Follow the company dress code and of course use your common sense. Your attire should be fit for the workplace.

Have work life balance:

For women to climb the corporate ladder, it is extremely important to maintain a work life balance. This is one of the most important things that should be kept in mind when we talk about career tips for women. Accept it that your job will demand certain sacrifices and adjustments and you need to live up to them. Set your priorities to suit your schedule. Look for good daycare options or somebody who can look after your kids when you are not there.

Go that extra mile:

One of the key factors of being a women entrepreneur is going that extra mile. Put in those additional hours, do not hesitate to take risks, and be prepared to travel and be available for special assignments.

Let technology help:

With technology by your side, you can get just about anything done the way you want. Use different workplace apps like DailyRoutine, InstaPaper and more. Store your data on the cloud so that you can work when you want, from wherever you want. Turn your work life into a virtual workplace.

We dominate the workplace
