Walt Disney Buys Togetherville, the Facebook® Alike Social Network for Kids

Togetherville-2If you believe in Associated Press, you would believe in the news that Walt Disney Company has taken acquisition of Togetherville. Togetherville is now added to Disney’s repertoire of Internet properties including a mobile application developer named Tapulous and a social gaming company Playdom. However, the sum of the deal is yet to be disclosed.

Togetherville – a ville for parents-kids get-together

Togetherville is a Facebook like social network platform for kids aged between six and ten years. Togetherville was a Menlo Park, California based social network which was developed by an Indian entrepreneur, Mandeep Singh Dhillon. This Indian-origin entrepreneur started Togetherville in 2008 and launched its beta version on May 19, 2010. The social network works like FB for kids under 13 years old who are restricted from Facebook.

The social network allows kids to send pre-selected messages, play games, and watch videos. The site allows the parents to scrutinize their kids’ friends’ comments before allowing the site to publish them. Not only children, it welcomes parents to create online neighborhoods too and ensure privacy for their kids to play games and connect friends they can trust. Hence, Togetherville forms an online gathering for families taking in both parents and their kids to join and enjoy networking with people known and trusted by them.

Moms & dads can restricts unwanted outsiders

Like a true kid-focused social networking, Togetherville is created as an ad-free platform and each neighborhood is focused on one child only. Thus, it is closed to strangers completely until approved by their parents. Profiles of children take in profile information and kids’ photos and are completely kept private within the boundary off the outsiders unless parents allow them to enter.

A zone for unleashing kids’ creativity and learn new things; Togetherville claimed that “In Togetherville, your kids learn much more than computer skills: they explore how to be creative, express themselves and learn in a fun, interactive and ad-free way. We help them use technology to connect with the important people in their lives – safely and responsibly.”
