With Microsoft unveiling its Windows 8 tablet and iPad 2 being launched on latest iOS 5, competition between Microsoft and Apple rose to a higher altitude. These two tech giants have landed into this new battle of establishing their supremacy in the tablet PC segment. Both Microsoft and Apple are ready to snatch greater share of market with their feature packed OS for tablet PCs that are Windows 8 and iOS 5 respectively.
Several Windows 8 features may woo you while some features of iOS will impress you as well. However, some features of Windows 8 make iOS appear less productive and crafty. These features are noticeable right from the start –
The Lock Screen
At a first glance, lock screens of the both Windows 8 and iOS 5 look quintessentially similar, but the Windows 8 lock screen appears a bit more refined than the iOS 5. Windows 8 lock screen comes with the capacity to run both desktop OS and a Metro style Start menu which is optimized for Tablet PCs without reducing on the performance level. The lock screen also brings a quick view of app notifications, updates of apps, new e-mails and social network updates, latest events calendar, weather updates (whereas the dull weather icon on iOS will make you want for more updates on temperature) and other things. On the other hand, iOS lock screen clutter all the apps on the lock screen and you need to launch each of those individually to catch up with the latest in all of them.
File System Browser
Windows 8 will bring you a simplified file system including all types of files from documents, images, sound, videos etc. in a central location. Hence, you can open a similar type of documents or files created in other apps which you cannot in iOS based devices such as iPad or iPhone.
Another notable feature of Windows 8 that you may miss over iOS 5 tablet PC OS is side by side display of apps and to transcribe information from one app to another. This is dual-displays will give a boost in your productivity whereas in Mac, you need to resize apps manually to open apps side by side. These features will sure make Windows 8 stand out in the market where iOS need some improvements. The iOS 5 will soon release in its next WWDC event, while you cannot expect Windows 8 release before summer of 2012.
