So you have set your social media resolutions for 2015? Does your resolution list also include ‘unplugging’ yourself from scrolling through Instagram followers, Facebook posts or Twitter updates? In fact, many even believe that being constantly connected makes them unhappy, especially if it’s about being inundated with incessant social media posts.
But before you think that cutting off yourself from social media posts or updates is the solution to the chaotic situations that you came across in your past year, here’s something that you should be aware of: Frequent use of social media, can actually lower down the stress levels – particularly for women. This is what the findings from a study published by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project say.
Isn’t it surprising? Even the researchers who conducted the study were surprised as the results were totally opposite their assumptions.  Here’s the list of three things – which interested many critics who went through the role of social media in lowering the stress levels in women.
Provides Supportive Exchange
Social Media is a way to seek supportive exchange. It has always kept people connected. In simpler words, staying active at social media platforms keeps people connected with friends, family and colleagues, making them feel less stressed. In fact, many people even start feeling that they are always supported by their community or friends.
Real Stress Buster for women
Women as termed by experts are the people tasked with ‘maintaining household family relationships’. So, the ones who find it hard to get out of their family responsibilities, social media is the best way out for distressing themselves. They are constantly driven by the technology, which can actually be helping them fulfill those household tasks more efficiently while saving a lot of time for themselves.
Women Active Sharers than Men
It is clear that social media is ruled by women. As per the study findings, women are more likely to be active sharers than men. Posting quick photo on Instagram or updating any post on Facebook has always been the easiest thing to do. No matter what you share on social media platforms, but their results are definitely a big stress buster for many, especially for women.
As per the findings, the lowered stress levels are more prominent in women who use social media a lot in their everyday lifestyle. Women having higher than average social media use have been found 21 percent less stressed – as quoted in the study.
Individuals who are highly involved in social media use are more interested in knowing about friends’ major life events, posts updated by friends and so on than non-social media users. Generally, women are more likely to know about the events happening with their friends than male.  Sharing of good or neutral news by friends and families are still the reason behind the lowering stress levels in women.  However, on the contrary, if the news shared is not that good, it can even boost the stress levels in women. Similarly, if women vent about the bad things happening in their lives, they feel better, while it raises the stress level of others.
So, what you guys are waiting for? It is something that we all are aware of, but never thought of. So, go on socializing, exploring, commenting and posting on social media and gifting yourself a less stressed lifestyle.
