Microsoft has sworn not to make its social network, So.cl, a Facebook clone when the company has launched it quite unceremoniously on Sunday May 20, 2012. The So.cl, a product of Microsoft’s FUSE Labs, was live since December, 2011. Now, the tech giant has made its social network available for students and general public. This ‘experimental project’ of Microsoft is aimed at offering fresh new social networking experience for users.
What’s the So.cl?
Microsoft has decided to shy away from the existing bandwagon of social networks like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc. So, what type of social network would Microsoft’ So.cl be? Microsoft has designed its social network to walk on a different path and to enable its users to share even more ‘rich posts’. At that, myriad concepts of online sharing would be flickering as light-bulbs over your head – so what can you do over So.cl?

Microsoft targets to keep its So.cl as a network of learning communities. Moreover, Microsoft reportedly expects students to continue hopping over popular social networks like Facebook and Twitter and also continue using search tools like Google and Bing. Microsoft’s spokesperson said that –
“We hope to encourage students to reimagine how our everyday communication and learning tools can be improved, by researching, learning and sharing in their everyday lives.”
