Google has announced complete Google+ redesigns on Wednesday morning April 11, 2012 on its blog. Google proclaimed that this new design would make Google+ more easily navigable, also make it look more beautiful and a simpler. Fascinatingly, most of the overhauled elements of Google+ may remind you of Facebook Timeline layout. Most blatant resemblances with Facebook Timeline include a wide and larger banner image which it calls ‘cover photo’ (like Facebook?), video displays, navigation ribbon, larger images, chat lists and many more. Will your Google+ profile suggest your Facebook profile copy-paste? Well, not entirely though. Some Google+ redesigns do not seem to mimic Facebook, its social network contender. Let us see what Google+ redesigns look inspired from Facebook Timeline and what elements look original below.
What Google+ redesigns look Facebook Timeline rip off? Â Â Â Â Â
Currently 170-million users strong social network strives to keep up and augment its user engagement by flipping over to a new design. The search giant draws stiff competition from Facebook since inception and the score between the social networks seem prominently uneven with the advent of Facebook Timeline overhaul. Hence, the search giant needed to bring noticeable changes in its social network layout to sustain with steadily increasing status of Facebook. This might be the reason why Google+ redesigns may look a Facebook Timeline rip-off.
- Google+ redesigns now consist of a large banner photo which Google+ introduce as ‘cover photo’
- Google+ redesigns include a chat list that sits at the right hand side of news feeds, like what we see on Facebook Timeline.
- Google+ redesigns introduces a navigation ribbon at the left side instead of the combination of a top navigation bar and left navigation panel. Though the ribbon would spark off the left navigation on Facebook Timeline, but it is more fluid unlike Facebook’s navigation. You can drag icons on the ribbon up and down to organize and reorganize those elements.
- Another noticeable Facebook Timeline influence on Google+ redesigns is larger size of images and videos in Google+ news feeds. The size is noticeably larger than it was earlier like Facebook recently launched full-screen photos .
What didn’t bear resemblance to Facebook Timeline?
The Explorer page in Google+ redesigns was an interesting and enticing change on the social network. This Explorer Page helps you control how much news feeds you want to show on your Google+ profile simply by making adjustments on a sliding pane. Google+ redesigns include a better and dedicated hangout page. This page would make invitations for hangouts from your circle, air and public hangouts most visible.
Though some Google+ redesigns could be clear indication of Facebook Timeline influences, some improvements look highly creative, original. However, overall Google+ redesigns have generated positive reactions and comments around the world. So, what do you think of Google+ redesigns? Its not really similar to timeline. I mean facebook has a better layout, while Google+ has more white space. At the same time, the cover photo size although is smaller, they can be animated gif images if the size trick is followed – http://goo.gl/E8m4R . I would hope for a bigger banner and less white space.
