Protect your Facebook® account from Facebook virus

Facebook buttonViruses can majorly damage our computer system. They are special programs which can crash our hard drives and affect operating system etc. But what if these viruses enter your Facebook account and create several problems? Facebook viruses are capable of causing severe damage and therefore they should be taken seriously. As a network-savvy woman, you want to maintain your social network and share your various updates with your friends and associates. But do you know that most viruses enter your system when you click on links that install malicious codes or whenever you allow an unauthorized person or application access to your account? Also, some of these viruses are programmed so smartly that even before you discover that they exist in your system, they may already have caused major destructions in your Facebook account.

Steps to fix Facebook virus

Whenever you discover a Facebook virus in your account, the first thing that you should do on a priority basis is to change your Facebook account password. To change it you should:

  • First of all, login to your Facebook account.
  • Click ‘Accounts’ and then ‘Account Settings’.
  • As the ‘My Account’ page appears, Click on ‘Change’ link next to Password.
  • As soon as you click on it three text boxes will appear.
  • Type your current password into the Old Password text box.
  • Type a new password into the New Password text box.
  • Then, Re-type the new password into the Confirm Password text box.
  • Finally, click on the ‘Change Password’ button.

Once you have successfully changed your Facebook account password, write a status update alerting your friends that you clicked on a bad link and had a Facebook virus in your Facebook account.

Also alert your friends not to click on any link that appears to be from your profile and if you know some specific friends who had received a viral link from you, then go to their Facebook Wall and delete those links.

Also, make sure that no application is hidden in your account. Clean the apps that you are not using anymore. In order to check the apps connected to your account, follow these steps:

  • Go to ‘Account’ and click ‘Privacy settings’.
  • The ‘Choose Your Privacy Settings’ page will appear. At the bottom of this page you will find headers called ‘Apps and Websites’.
  • Click ‘Edit your Settings’ under Apps and Websites.
  • As soon as you click on it ‘Apps, Games and Websites’ page appears.
  • Now, click on ‘Edit Settings’ button at the top.
  • The ‘Apps You Use’ page opens up listing all apps that you had allowed to have access to your account.
  • Just go through the list and make sure that you know each and every app.
  • If you want to remove any app from this list, just click the ‘Edit Settings’ button next to the app.
  • And click on ‘Remove App’ link.

Following these steps is just so simple and can prevent your Facebook account from being attacked by Facebook viruses. However, you have to take some precautionary measures all the time, especially whenever you click on a link. Make sure that the link you click is authenticated or just hover your mouse over the link and see the URL in the left corner of the browser. If you are not familiar with the URL don’t ever click on the link.

So, ladies just follow these easy steps and free your Facebook account from Facebook virus! Happy computing and networking.
