iYogi offers error-free and virus-free computer system backup services. The digital ecosystem is alive with risks to your data. Having a backup plan in place can save not only time and serious headache, but also money and sensitive information. Malicious software can damage important files in the process of propagating itself. Before running a backup, it is important to run a virus scan to locate and quarantine potentially infected data. Otherwise, backups are of limited use. If a virus attacks your computer system and you lose valuable information, then performing a backup of these infected files, you are only setting yourself up for the same to happen again. Read more…

Lost all of my Music
I learned the very difficult lesson of backing up my computer data quickly the first time I had a serious computer crash. Hopefully some of you out there can benefit from my experience, and take some precautions to keep you from having a story like mine and experiencing a huge computer backup problem.
When I was a freshman in college, my roommate accidentally spilled a glass of water directly onto the keyboard of my laptop. Instantly, the hard drive was fried. I took the computer to the on-campus computer repair shop to see what could be done. They claimed that the computer was fixable, and only the hard-drive and motherboard would need to be replaced. They told me a couple of days later that they were unable to recover any data from the hard-drive. While most of this data was college papers and notes that I no longer needed anyways, there was one devastating loss: all of my music.
Normally, this would not have been such an issue, but just two weeks prior to this event, my iPod suffered a similar fate when it was dropped into a toilet bowl. Although I recovered the iPod with the help of a HazMat suit, none of the music was recoverable.
So there I was, with about 80 gigs worth of music that I would never hear again, a computer with a fried hard drive, and a useless iPod that smelled like a men’s dormitory bathroom. It was a bad situation. While backing up my data would not have saved my iPod or motherboard, had I been smart enough to back everything up, I would still have my music today.
How to Avoid a Computer Backup Problem
It is not fun to lose precious data that is needed daily. Retrieving lost data is a time consuming process that can frustrate anyone. Can you imagine sitting at your desktop for hours while trying to retrieve lost data? This is an experience that can happen to anyone who fails to take proper precautions against the possibility of losing invaluable information and staring into a grave computer backup problem.
What did I lose during the power outage? I lost all of my real estate proposals, copies of old bills, and homework assignments.
I am a part time real estate investor. I enjoy turning over properties that I find at rock bottom prices. I use my computer to create proposals for home owners. I created a habit of storing all of my proposals on my hard drive. I failed to make copies of my proposals. Losing my proposals put me in a position where I missed out on three potential deals.
Keeping up with old bills has helped me estimate how much money I will need to set aside each month. The computer back up problem pushed me off course for several months. It will take months for me to get back into a position where I can establish another sound monthly financial plan.
A computer backup problem can be avoided. I learned that it is vital to save all of my important data on a disc. I would have never been in this predicament if I had listened to my wife. I will not make the same mistake again!
My laptop contains all my work-related data. Even though many people had warned me about the issues faced by a system, I never really took them seriously. Last weekend, the unthinkable happened. My system crashed and even though I took it to an expert, he told me the system had to be formatted which meant I would lose all data. If only I had taken a backup, ……. !
Always verify data!
Hi all, I always create backup of files on my computer but even this was not enough to save me. I regularly take backups using an automatic tool and made the mistake of not verifying data on the backup media. When my system crashed I accessed my backup only to find that data there is corrupted. Always double check data being backed up!
