iYogi states that both buyers and sellers are at risk if buying or selling vehicle online. In online automotive fraud, the genuine buyer is usually asked to pay via wire transfer and genuine seller is paid by a cheque. This is the game being played by scammers and fraudsters. You should try to avoid websites that have domain names ending with .org, .biz, .cc, .info or .US. The buyer should choose the escrow service connected to an established auction site as a preventive measure. If it is not an established one like eBay.com, then check if it is properly licensed. Automobile fraud! Beware
I almost lost my money to online automobile fraud. I was looking to buy a chevy pickup and found a very good one online. The vehicle looked brand new and I immediately participated in the online and won. I was asked to pay for delivery charges but I refused as it was in the other side of the country.. how could I pay for delivery charges without even seeing the pickup?? They threatened me couple of times after that but I refused to cave in. I am definite that this was online automotive fraud!

Sean, you got lucky! If the pickup was in the next town or something, the delivery charges would have been very little and I think you would have paid. They were just trying to get the maximum out of you but ended up with nothing. If you want to buy cars or bikes or even a vase go to a regular store. Online auction sites as well as retail stores run their business on scams! Be careful!
Stay away from online automotive fraud
Hi, I am Adela and I hardly follow cars and automotives. But I was in need of a car to make commuting to office easy. And as I already said that my knowledge about cars is totally zero, I preferred buying it from an online auto shop. To search for a reliable website, I thoroughly browsed the Internet for many weeks and finally found one. Again the hurdle was to choose a car keeping in mind all its specifications and details. After much search, I finalized on a car that my type and more importantly, within my budget. I placed the order and completed all the requisites. Now I was just waiting for the car. However, before I could go for first drive in my car, I found out that the website from where I ordered it, is not genuine. It’s a fake website. The payment I made was transacted to people running that bogus site. I was shattered to the core. I was trapped in online automotive fraud.
Anyone who is interested in buying cars online, please make sure to check the authenticity of the website. Don’t BLINDLY trust any website offering you a good car in less price, as people involved in online automotive fraud intentionally claim to offer a car in less that its market value. Just stay away from any online goof up since there are chances that your personal information like bank details may also get disclosed or misused. Just keep your eyes open to save yourselves from such dangerous cheats!
