We all know that bad habits are not so unconquerable as much as it seems. All it takes is a little bit of effort and discipline. There is no rule or concepts of waiting for an auspicious ‘one fine day’ to quit, alter behavior or bring changes in our lifestyle to get rid or correct our bad habits. But there could be ‘one fine app’ to help us quit bad habits.
Usually we continue procrastinating and falsely waiting for the best day to refine our habits. And this is because changing habits seems tricky to us initially, and challenging. That’s when we need a compelling force to align us to the discipline and suggest us right action modules. A guiding force that can track our actions, monitor progresses and show us results. That’s why I needed tools (or coaches) to do the tracking, monitoring, measuring and for showing me the results. Like they say, ‘there’s an app for that’, I scoured over the Internet for apps that would help me and some of my acquaintances discard bad habits they are struggling with and build good habits. Surprisingly and fortunately, there are some good apps that are designed for this purpose and they are –
Name: Habit Maker Habit Breaker
Platform: iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad running iOS 4.0 or later     Â

Whether for building good habits or quitting bad habits, Habit Maker Habit Breaker can be an ideal guide. All we need to do is to download and launch the app, then set up the app by adding a habit. Now, define if it is meant to be broken or built up. The app enabled me to set goals for each app and kept me motivated with custom motivational messages, pop-up reminders, reward charts, badge notifications etc. The app sends me regular stats and even sends me reminders to my iPhone when I forget to take up an action. Isn’t it so intuitive? I can also set a reward that I can earn by performing an action. Download here.

The best app I have found for kicking off butts of cigarettes. This app is devised to help smokers quit cigarettes. Its five tabs have been highly effective to break indomitable smoking habit.
- Tracking measures daily smoking consumption, reductions
- Progress shows changes occurred in smoking, cravings and budget
- Achievements shows points, badges and awards won for achieving a certain goal
- Community lets you join the group of fellow smokers who are quitting and quit smoking
Besides these two app, a few more habit breaking and making apps I found worth trying are TraxItAll, Way of Life (breaking negative habits at work and succeed), The Habit Factor (a wonderful goal tracking and productivity app), and kickit.
