The world of technology is full of surprises and it is not just the apps and gadgets that we are talking about. Technology giant HP has some important news to share with the world. Leo Apotheker, president and CEO of the company has put in his papers and HP has wasted no time in naming his successor. Don’t be surprised if we told you that the new HP CEO is none other than Meg Whitman, a prominent name in HPs board of directors!
The news, although has surprised the entire tech fraternity, wasn’t unexpected, at least among people who were closely following this move. After Leo Apotheker joined office in September 2010, there was little that HP achieved under his lead. Several decisions of his went on to become loss making propositions, including the announcement that HP was planning to cancel its consumer PC business. Owing to this and other business deals, HP stock lost its value greatly in the international markets. What the brand lost over these months was visibly clear to all.
Putting an end to all the instability, Apotheker has stepped down from his post giving way to Whitman, who had once led eBay. Whitman has been associated with HP since January 2011, in the board of directors, and is only happy and enthusiastic now to be leading this technology superpower.
Speculations are rife regarding this new move as Whitman does not have previous experience of leading any corporate organization, leave aside leading a technology firm as big as HP. Just as all businesses go through a number of hits and flops, Whitman too has witnessed her share of hits and misses. Leading HP will be a tough task for her and whether she would like to experiment with newer concepts or would plan to take forward the existing ones, only time will tell.
As Meg Whitman commences her tenure as the new HP boss, one thing is established for sure. Largely known as the domain of the men, the technology field is opening up slowly and steadily for women too. As another power lady enters this domain, and leads it, we wish her all the best.
