I made a promise to myself on the New Years Eve – took this oath not to litter discarded digital clutters and pollute Mother Nature with my electronic wastes. I swore to abide by this green geeky philosophy and would contribute to lessening disposes of unusable devices. I challenged my mind to come up with an environment friendly and creative alternative uses of my old, but not discarded gadgets.
First, I spent days and hours of looking at those unused devices, while brainstorming. I narrowed my focus on three R’s that are ‘Reuse’, ‘Recycle’ and ‘Reduce (waste)’ to espouse unique ways of repurposing old devices. Then, I came up with following ideas and I cannot wait but share with my fellow readers who keep writing to me to find ways to repurpose their old gadgets.
Transform your ex-PC into a music station
That old PC lacks cannot support high resolution videos that shoot up to 1080 pixels and is not even capable of running the latest operating system as well – but, it certainly can play your music. If your old PC is still working well as an audio server then, consider making a networked jukebox that will fetch songs from local servers. If the built-in storage space fails to accommodate your entire music collection, then plug in an external hard disk drive or flash drive and make room for those tracks onto the PC. Thus, you can expand the storage capacity and play more songs along with accessing songs from your sibling’s laptop in other room.
Your Media Player is potent to become a portable drive Â
Music players of Samsung (remember Samsung Yepp edition?) and also those by Archos, Sony, Cowon , Creative etc. would feature a USB drive that would enable the MP3 player double as a removable media storage device. Many of these USB removable drives support Mass Storage Space that facilitates easy file sharing through drag and drop. Hence, if you have found your MP3 player alternative in your iPod touch or Smartphone, use these MP3 player as removable storage devices, instead.
May be a Macquarium…
One of the most traditional forms of alternative use of Apple Macintosh computer is to convert it into Macquarium, as invented by Andy Ihnatko, a computer writer.
