8 out of 10 moms advocate keeping an eye [read spying] on what their kids are posting, sharing, people and their friends on Facebook. Moms are going overboard in keeping digital eyes over their online activities, with an in-depth focus on kids’ Facebook profile and activities in order to protect their kids from Facebook hackers, inappropriate content and users on Facebook. Mom’s helicopter parenting is pushing kids to escape from their parents’ monitoring behavior, according to a study conducted by Wall Street Journal. Moms are found out to have no concern for kids’ privacy over the Internet.
The Survey by Crowd Science
Most moms (dads too) claim they are most lenient about their kids online activities, especially on Facebook. However, this latest JustAsk! mom survey conducted by Crowd Science has revealed that around 17 percent moms have admitted to take full control over their kids’ activities, caring less about intrusion in their kids’ online privacy. In other words, they admitted to foster helicopter parenting style. And 83 percent moms do not agree that their online monitoring behavior can be defined as helicopter parenting. According to Sandra Marshall, the VP of Research at Crowd Science –
“It’s no surprise in the age of social media, that 79% of moms share content like videos, photos and links with friends and family online, but the fact that they use digital channels to stay connected with their kids is very telling. Moms today are no different than in the past. They just want to stay connected with the people that matter to them most: their kids.”
The survey result will further undergo the scalpel of experts at Crowd Science and will be reviewed in a webinar to be held on Wednesday.
